Singapore’s First Integrated Community Hub To Open In Tampines

Community togetherness and being able to enjoy activities with the people that live in your area can be a great opportunity and now the residents of Singapore can do so with their first integrated community hub. It is a large scale project that offers everyone in the area to participate in a variety of fun filled activities and sports. Named “Our Tampines Hub”, this essential community center is set to be open in November of 2016.

Where is Our Tampines Hub?

If you’re familiar with Tampines, the hub is approximately 5.3 hectares in size and it is close to the area where the old Tampines Stadium and Sports Hall once stood. The entire project will span an approximate 7 football fields.

What is Included with the Hub in 2016?

As with most community centers or community hubs, there will be a variety of activities that residents can take advantage of. There is set to be an 800-seat hawker center to watch live events. There are also 20 badminton courts so residents can partake in an afternoon game of one of the most popular sports in Asia. There’s also a unique community kitchen available for seniors so they can have a fun activity to look forward to in the afternoon. As well as the sports and recreational facilities, over 100 different shops are going to be opened in the community hub so residents can enjoy days filled with shopping and excitement.

Updates for 2017

Although the entire construction of the Tampines community hub won’t be completed by November of 2016, there are additional features that you can look forward to by the end of 2017. There is said to be bowling facilities for the whole family, karaoke rooms, and a community gym where you can access a variety of different types of equipment. Later in the year residents can expect a performance arts theatre, a public library, and a swimming complex, which is fantastic for the warmer months of the summer.

The Hub Ceremony

The ceremony that was held on February 21st was to show residents all of the unique and interesting features that they were going to have access to once the construction was finished. The idea of the hub was first introduced by the National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan (recently replaced) and it was a part of the 5-year plan for the town of Tampines.

At the beginning of the ceremony there was a large group walk where all of the facilities were unveiled to the residents, some of the government officials that attended the ceremony included the Finance Minister, Minister of the Environment, and Advisers to the Tampines GRC Grassroots Organisations. Other notable attendees included the Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Culture, Community, and Youth as well as other MPs that are a part of the Tampines GRC.

With the development of this new community hub, residents will finally have exciting activities to take part in and it will surely help to improve the overall morale of the town.
